What is a Yantra?

Yantra = "Yam" (control) + "Tra" (instrument) — literally "an instrument for controlling the mind". It is a geometric form that manifests a deity's power through bindus (points), triangles, lotus petals, and bhupuras (square enclosures).

In Hindu Tantra, a yantra is called the "body" of a mantra — the mantra is the power, the yantra is its form. Worship of a mantra-energized yantra brings direct grace from the deity.
