✦ Yantra Puja Vidhi ✦
✦ — 10 steps from installation to prana-pratishtha — ✦
✦ Introduction ✦
Yantra installation and worship is a subtle Tantric science. Simply purchasing and placing a yantra does not yield results — what matters is muhurat, mantra-japa, prana-pratishtha, and regular worship. This procedure is common to all yantras — for yantra-specific details, see each yantra's individual page.
Best practice — chant guhya (secret) mantras like Sri Vidya, Bagalamukhi only after initiation from a siddha guru. For common deity-yantras (Ganesha, Lakshmi, Saraswati), this procedure can be performed by oneself.
✦ 10-Step Procedure ✦
Choose an Auspicious Muhurat
Diwali, Dhanteras, Akshay Tritiya, Guru Pushya yoga, Thursday morning — auspicious muhurats. Consult the panchang and fix a shubh tithi within the Abhijit Muhurat. Avoid Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika.
Cleanse the Space and Self
Purify the puja space with cow-dung paste or Ganga-jal. Bathe and wear clean white or yellow clothes. Bathe the yantra itself with panchagavya or Ganga-jal.
Take a Sankalpa
Hold water, akshat, and flowers in your right hand. Speak your name, gotra, tithi, place — and announce your purpose for installing the yantra. Release the water after the sankalpa.
Place the Yantra on a Pedestal
Spread red silk or yellow cloth on the puja-altar. Draw an 8-petal lotus or rangoli on it. Place the yantra at the center — facing east or north.
Pancha-upachara Snan
Bathe the yantra successively with water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar — then again with clean water (panchamrit snan). Chant the deity's bija mantra during each bath.
Shodashopachara Puja
16 ritual acts of worship — asana, padya, arghya, achamaniya, snan, vastra, yajnopavita, gandha (sandalwood/roli), pushpa, dhupa, deepa, naivedya, tambula, dakshina, aarti, pradakshina. Chant the deity's mantra with each.
Mantra-japa
Chant the yantra's mool mantra 108 times using a rudraksha or sphatika mala. Sri Yantra → Panchadashi mantra. Ganesha → "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah". Kubera → "Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Shreem Kleem Vitteshvaraya Namah".
Prana-pratishtha
Install the deity's life-force in the yantra — chant the prana-pratishtha mantra and touch the yantra's three points (heart, eyes, mouth) with the thumb. After this, the yantra becomes deity-embodied — treat it as sacred as a murti.
Naivedya Offering
Offer the deity's favored naivedya — Ganesha: modak; Lakshmi: kheer; Saraswati: milk-sugar; Kubera: dry-fruits and sweets. Also offer tulsi or bel leaves as appropriate.
Daily Worship Routine
Worship the yantra daily after morning bath — light a deepak, offer incense, chant the mantra (minimum 11 times). Special puja on Friday/Sankranti/Purnima. Full siddhi in 30 days.
