✦ Krishna Birth Story
King Kansa's father Ugrasena of Mathura. Kansa removed father and seized kingdom. Heard a prophecy that the 8th son of his sister Devaki would kill him. Kansa imprisoned Devaki and husband Vasudeva.
Kansa killed Devaki's 6 sons at birth. 7th son Balarama — moved to Rohini's (Vasudeva's second wife) womb through "garbha-sthanantaran". 8th son Krishna — born on Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami, Rohini nakshatra, at midnight.
All doors of prison opened automatically. Guards fell asleep. Vasudeva took Krishna in basket and crossed Yamuna river to reach Gokul — Nand-Yashoda's house. Exchanged Yashoda's daughter (Yogamaya) and brought along.
Kansa tried to kill that daughter (Yogamaya) — but she flew into the sky in devi-form and said: "Kansa! Your killer has already reached Gokul."
Krishna performed bal-lilas with Nand-Yashoda in Gokul until age 11 — butter stealing, Kaliya destruction, Govardhan lifting. Then went to Mathura and killed Kansa. Later Mahabharata-Gita-teaching.
