✦ What is Full Moon Dates? ✦
Purnima is the final tithi of Shukla Paksha, when the Moon is 180° from the Sun and appears fully illuminated. Each lunar month has one Purnima, so there are typically 12 Purnimas in a year (13 in adhik-maas years).
Each Purnima has its own significance — Chaitra Purnima (Hanuman Jayanti), Vaishakha Purnima (Buddha Purnima), Ashadha (Guru Purnima), Shravana (Raksha Bandhan), Kartik Purnima (Dev Deepavali, Ganga snan), Margashirsha (Datta Jayanti), Paush (Shakambhari Jayanti), Magha (Magh snan), Phalguna (Holi).
Satyanarayan Bhagwan's vrat-katha is considered most auspicious on Purnima. Chandra darshan and chandra puja yield special results. Fasting, charity, pilgrim-bath, and pitru-tarpan are all highly beneficial on this tithi.
✦ Concept & Rule ✦
Astronomical basis: Purnima forms when the angular difference between Moon and Sun is exactly 180° — i.e., Earth lies between them. Technically it is tithi-ordinal 15 (Shukla Paksha). Tithi duration is 19–26 hours as the Moon's orbit is elliptical. The Purnima of the day is the one active at sunrise — our list follows this standard.
