Samadhi — 8th and final limb of yoga. Completion of dhyana. Meditator-meditation-meditated become one. Described in Patanjali Yoga Sutras.

Samadhi = "Sam" (complete) + "Adhi" (concentration). Door to self-realization.

2 Main Types

1. Samprajnata Samadhi (sabija): with object. 4 levels.

2. Asamprajnata Samadhi (nirbija): without object. Pure consciousness.

4 Levels of Samprajnata

1. Savitarka: on gross objects. With reasoning.

2. Savichara: on subtle elements. With discrimination.

3. Sananda: bliss experience. Ego remains.

4. Sasmita: only "I" feeling. Pure ego.

2 Types of Asamprajnata

Videha-mukti: after body-leaving.

Jivan-mukti: living samadhi. Free even while embodied.

Signs

Breath very slow (1-2/min).

Heart rate 30-40.

No external sensation.

Time-sense ended.

Divine bliss.

Glow on face.

Yogic powers (siddhi) — but bondage.

Path to Samadhi
