History

8th century temple. Rebuilt by King Nara-Narayan in 16th century.

Daksha-yajna story. Shiva's tandav with Sati's body. Vishnu cut into 51 pieces.

Yoni-part fell at Kamakhya site.

Ambubachi Mela

Mid-June (Ashadh Shukla). 4 days.

Temple fully closed 3 days.

4th day: Mata's bath. Temple reopens.

Devotees get red cloth strips (Mata's flow mark) as prasad.

Tantric sadhakas gather in thousands.

Darshan

8 km from Guwahati railway station.

Hours: 5:30 AM — 1 PM, 2:30 — 5:30 PM.

VIP darshan: ₹500. Regular: free, 2-4 hr wait.

Heavy crowd during Navratri and Ambubachi.

Offerings: flowers, sindoor, saree, goat (bali tradition).
