✦ Ganda Moola ✦
✦ Six gandanta-nakshatras at sign-junctions — require shanti puja ✦
✦ What is Ganda Moola? ✦
Ganda Moola is a special concept in Vedic astrology. Six nakshatras fall at gandanta (sign-junction) points — Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Mula, and Revati. The Moon's transit through these is called "Ganda Moola kaala".
Its main significance — if a child is born during these six nakshatras, they are said to have "Mula Nakshatra Dosha", which traditionally requires "Mula Shanti Puja" 27 days after birth. Without this shanti, the dosha is believed to bring difficulty to the child and family.
A second meaning — auspicious work begun during a sandhi (junction) does not bear full fruit. The Moon spends ~24 hours in each nakshatra, so each Ganda Moola period lasts roughly 1 day. It occurs 6 times per lunar month.
✦ Concept & Rule ✦
Ganda Moola = 6 nakshatras: Ashwini (Aries-start), Ashlesha (Cancer-Leo junction), Magha (Leo-start), Jyeshtha (Scorpio-Sagittarius junction), Mula (Sagittarius-start), Revati (Pisces-Aries junction). Children born in these nakshatras traditionally require "Mula Shanti Puja" — performed 27 days later when the same nakshatra recurs. The Ashlesha-Magha and Jyeshtha-Mula junctions are considered most intense — especially the last 48 minutes (2 ghatis) of the prior nakshatra and the first 48 minutes of the next.
