Veervati Story

Veervati was the only sister of seven brothers. She kept her first Karwa Chauth fast at her parents' home. Her brothers couldn't bear seeing her thirst and hunger.

They lit a lamp on a peepal tree and pretended it was the moon. Veervati ate, only to receive devastating news — her husband had died at that exact moment.

Heartbroken, she left her body. Maa Parvati appeared and explained the mistake. Veervati did intense penance for one year. Pleased, Parvati restored her husband's life.

Since then, Karwa Chauth has been observed strictly — no eating until actual moon sighting.
